Tumatxa is a web-based manager of translation memories. It has been developed by CodeSyntax, a Basque company working in the fileds of web applications and language technologies.

TM files can be uploaded, and they become directly searchable and editable. A given memory can be enriched adding new segments (merging it with a new TM file). And the user may search and select several memories, in order to pack them all in one single file and download it.

TM files can be shared through the web environement, in an Intranet or local server, as well as through the open World Wide Web, overcoming the restrictions for shared use posed by TM software tools. Tumatxa works currently with two file formats, TMX and .po files.

Permissions and users

Any instance of Tumatxa can be modelled in order to arrange any number of permissions, roles and users. So, in an Intranet environements, managers, translators and others can access the application and perform different tasks.

The most common distinction could be that of visitors and managers. An anonymous user or visitor of an open Tumatxa application can:

  • Search and consult the repositories, the memories. Use Tumatxa as if it were an online dictionary.
  • Download files.

You may test that kind of usage in our two demos, the Basque repository and the International repository.

However, the manager can perform interesting extra tasks:

  • Upload files.
  • Manage files, merge them, organize them in corpuses or folders.
  • Manually edit any segment of any file.

You can see some screenshots of actions reserved to managers at this page.
